Lonestar Webstation
Good resource for Texas music, including pages for Lucinda Williams and Vince Bell. Includes extensive artist links.

Oxford American Magazine
This publication, billed as "The Southern Magazine for Good Writing," has an annual double music issue that's top notch and includes an eclectic compilation CD. The 2000 issue is the fourth. The above link gives info on the series.

Texas Music Tablature Archive
Fans have transcribed songs by Guy Clark, Steve Earl, Townes Van Zandt, and others.

Bell, Vince
Singer-songwriter.

BR5-49
This group is on the crest of the new country wave - which is the return to old country.

Cash, Johnny
The Man in the Long Black Coat.

Cash, Roseanne
A good fan site for this writer of well-crafted songs.

Clark, Guy
This very good fan site has everything but sound clips and a store, including a nearly complete set of lyrics and some tab.

Cleaves, Slaid
He's been called the next Fred Eaglesmith. Good sound.

Eaglesmith, Fred
And the Flying Squirrels. Great songwriter with a rough and ready sound. Once heard Fred get upset that a fan thought they'd been practicing....

Earle, Stacy
Has quickly outgrown the shadow of her brother to become a respected artist in her own right.

Earle, Steve
Earle has made a legendary comeback to be better than ever.

Ely, Joe
Former member of the Flatlanders.

Five Chinese Brothers
Recently defunct, but the legend lives on. Several fine recordings helped give Rockabilly an urban sensibility and an urbane wit. R.I.P.

Friedman, Dean "Kinky"
Inimitable comic writer made his reputation with novelty songs like "They Ain't Making Jews Like Jesus Anymore."

Fulks, Robbie
Finely crafted songs with a rockabilly edge and a cult following. Extensive lyrics/chords/tab pages.

Gilmore, Jimmy Dale
Former member of Flatlanders with Joe Ely and Butch Hancock. One gone guy.

Haggard, Merle
Classic.

Hancock, Butch
One of the finest writers anywhere. This stuff constantly amazes. A good fan site with sounds and all.

The Handsome Family
Wildly imaginative reworking of really old American traditions, haunted by "Appalachian ballads, country spirituals and dirt-road blues from the 1920s and '30s, and centuries-old Scottish ballads." -The Chicago Tribune

Harris, Emmylou
Always walking the edge between authentic folk and commercial country, Harris recently teamed up with Linda Ronstadt to make a Grammy nominated album.

Hinojosa, Tish
Tex-Mex chanteuse sings in English and Spanish. Official site

Keen, Robert Earle
Fine writer.

Koerner, "Spider" John
A fansite for this classic fingerstyle blues guitarist and songwriter.

Lawrence, Eddy
Lawrence pens quirky southern gothic tales unlike anyone else's. He's reclusive, but the songs and recordings are excellent. Site has sounds, bio.

LeFave, Jimmy
Another Texan.

Lovett, Lyle
From his beginnings as a quirky songwriter to his big band sound and recent double album of new country covers, Lovett is a true artist, an explorer. Unmatched storyteller.

Marbach, Jason. Texas songwriter, basic country. He's tall (lyrics, samples).

Nelson, Willie
The one and only.

Phelps, Kelly Joe
Solid American roots music and a highly distinguished guitarist.

Russell, Tom
You'd never guess this writer of Tex-Mex and superb narrative songs of the borderlands is a native of Brooklyn, NY. Revered in Europe.

Son Volt
Rock meets country. Hear clips from Wide Swing Tremolo here.

Van Zandt, Townes
The late Americana legend.

Walker, Jerry Jeff
Yes, he wrote "Mr. Bo Jangles" - get over it.

Welch, Gillian and David Rawlings
Welch has captured something raw and dark at the heart of folk and country music that most writers have lost. Rawlings is under-valued here.

Westerleys, The
Americana.

Williams, Hank
Idolized as the king of country music by the new generation of writers, though you can't hear him on the radio. Not much on the offical site either.

Williams, Hank
Touted as "The Complete Website," there are no songs at this fan site. But lots of memorabilia-type stuff. Lyrics to all his songs are here.

Williams, Lucinda
This is LW's official site, though this unofficial site is excellent too. And here's extensive collection of lyrics, chords and tabs.

Y'All
Two guys performing humble, sometimes kitsch-hokey, understated songs in the simplest country style. And the lucky green dress? After a while, you don't even notice.

Young, Neil
One of the great writers, Young has always straddled these musical borderlands. Excellent unofficial site, including extensive lyrics, chords & tab - no songwriter deserves it more.

Young, Steve
Young has been making what he calls Southern music, a blend of American roots influences, since the early 60's.
