The Festival, a three-day extravaganza to traditional and contemporary folk music, dance, crafts, camping, campfire sings, and special children's activities, takes place August 24 to 26, 2001 on the Old Pool Farm near Schwenksville, Pa. This special 40th year anniversary event will include some of the leading folk performers from the past 40 years as well as performers whose music will lead us into the next 40 years.
Among those currently scheduled to perform are: Richie Havens, Tom Rush, Dave Van Ronk, Molly Mason & Jay Unger, Eileen Ivers, Chris Smither, Tom Paxton, Utah Phillips, Laurie Lewis , Jimmy Johnson, Nickel Creek, Solas, the Tarbox Ramblers, Groovelily, Kim & Reggie Harris, Erin McKeown, Ruthie Foster with Cyd Cassone, Sonia, and the Wayfaring Strangers - including Andy Statman and Tony Trischka.
Gene Shay will act as emcee for the 40th time in a row. After 40 years, there are still new things to be found at the Philadelphia Folk Festival, including this year a brand new main stage, being built on the site. In addition, there will be a raffle for a prototype 40th anniversary Martin guitar. And a new 40th anniversary commemorative 4-CD set with stellar performances from the past 40 years will be released at the Festival.
